Have you ever been frustrated working on a computer that keeps crashing, or doing things that you didn’t ask it to do? What do you do? You reset it. You turn it off and back on again hoping that in a few seconds things are back to normal.
How do you relax? When have you taken a vacation lately? Just like a computer that needs resetting, we too sometimes need a reset. I relax when I play sports, especially soccer, or I go on a vacation.
Recently my family decided to take a road trip to Banff, Jasper, and Lake Louise. We loved it! (Except for driving 2700kms in one week.) We stopped in Osoyoos and went down to the lake while it was 36 degrees out and I bought my favorite local wine. After some much needed relaxation we drove to Nelson. It took us another 4 hours to get there. My wife always had a dream of wanting to live in Nelson. I guess I could say it was on her “Bucket List”. After visiting it though, she has crossed it out! We wanted to do the Alpine hike so we drove off road, really off road, to the top of the mountain and hiked around the lake. It took us about 1hr to drive 16KMS on a very rough, gravel road. The girls were all worried we would end up in the ditch somewhere since the roads were so narrow. When we got to the destination, we were told that you had to cover your tires with wire mesh if you wanted to stay overnight camping because porcupines would eat your tires!
The next day we drove to Radium Hot Springs, and that was wild. We saw mountain goats on the road and took so many photos. This was a last minute vacation that we decided on only 2 weeks prior, so we weren’t able to find a hotel in Banff itself. Banff is beautiful, and we enjoyed our visit very much. We also visited Lake Louise. The view there was breath taking. On our way to Jasper we saw some caribou sitting on the road. What a great experience seeing them so close! We enjoyed looking at different views of the Rocky Mountains and many turqoise blue coloured lakes. As we drive around different corners, the view would completely change. BC is a very beautiful place, but I think the Rocky Mountains are 10 times more beautiful. In short, it was a relaxing trip and I feel reset.
Please feel free to post a comment below on things you and your family like to do to relax and rest, or if you have a favorite vacation destination. We would love to hear from you!
